New Chief Financial Officer Appointed at National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

WASHINGTON — The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine today announced that, following a national search, Ebun Caldeira Johnson has been named chief financial officer.  

Johnson has served as director of the National Academies’ budget office since 2014. In that capacity, she leads the institution’s multimillion dollar budgeting process and is the point of contact for government contracting compliance and audit support. Prior to joining the National Academies in 2012 as associate director of budget and operations analysis, Johnson was the director of finance and market research at the Semiconductor Industry Association. 

Earlier in her career, Johnson served as the finance lead (deputy finance director) of the Space and Special Programs Division and the Integrated Technologies Division of AT&T Government Solutions, then two of the largest program divisions within the company. Subsequently, she joined AT&T Government Solutions FP & A corporate team to lead organization-wide financial planning and analysis and government contracting compliance.    

“Ebun has been a dedicated leader in our budget office for over a decade,” said National Academy of Sciences President Marcia McNutt. “To support the institution’s decision-making, Ebun and her team produce innovative and complex financial analyses and forecasting utilizing. I am delighted to continue working with Ebun and look forward to celebrating her success in her new role.” 

Johnson earned a Master of Business Administration in finance from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Maryland. 

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are private, nonprofit institutions that provide independent, objective analysis and advice to the nation to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions related to science, engineering, and medicine. They operate under an 1863 congressional charter to the National Academy of Sciences, signed by President Lincoln.
