Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will establish a standing committee to provide a forum for dialogue on the Department of War’s effort to develop occupational exposure limits (OELs) for blast overpressure and related brain health concerns. The committee will convene periodic meetings to identify and discuss emerging issues, provide informal inputs on evolving scientific and health-related needs, and exchange perspectives among experts, stakeholders, and Department representatives related to issues such as:
- literature review and study selection,
- evidence synthesis and weight-of-evidence approaches,
- identification and choice of health-based endpoints (including but not limited to acute and cumulative neurological outcomes),
- approaches to uncertainty and variability, and
- national and international practices for setting occupational exposure limits recognizing this as a physical hazard.
The standing committee will not provide consensus findings or recommendations; its role is to provide scientific dialogue and input to help inform decisions made by DoW.
