Topical Working Group: Elementary Science - Collaborative for Advancing Science Teaching and Learning in K-12

In progress

Any project, supported or not by a committee, that is currently being worked on or is considered active, and will have an end date.

The Elementary Science Topical Working Group aims to support the implementation of state-level science standards aligned with the vision of the Framework in elementary schools nationwide. The group will explore district and state policy levers and constraints, research to support students, educators, leaders, and educational systems, and wisdom earned from practice. Key focus areas include policy development, research and evidence-based practices, effective district and state-level implementation strategies, and continuous improvement. Ultimately, this workgroup seeks to cultivate a strong foundation for science education in elementary schools, empowering educators to inspire curiosity and a passion for learning in their students.

Description

The Collaborative on Advancing Science Teaching and Learning in K-12 (CASTL-K12) brings together entities across sectors engaged in the work of implementing Framework-inspired state level science standards. The heart of the work occurs within Topical Working Groups (Elementary Science, Retaining and Sustaining High Quality Science Educators, Empowering School and Instructional Leaders, Understanding and Navigating the Policy Conditions for Equitable Implementation) where together member organizations take on new evidence-based actions and share lessons learned with the broader science education community.
