PART III

LOOKING FORWARD

We turn next to the question of how the Intelligence Community (IC) can position itself to take optimal advantage of the opportunities described in Part II and others like them. Collaboration and coordination—not only interdisciplinary approaches to research within the academic community, but also a multitude of ways researchers and IC agencies can work together and learn from one another—will be essential. In Chapter 9, we explore lessons learned in conducting this study and broaden the discussion to consider lessons that can be drawn from the history of collaboration between the IC and the research community. Chapter 10 summarizes the opportunities the committee sees for the IC in this collaborative work and describes our ideas about how the IC can capitalize on them most effectively.
