An ad hoc committee under the auspices of the Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences (BBCSS) of the National Research Council (NRC) will organize a two-day workshop in Washington, D.C. on research directions in understanding pathways to successful aging. The focus of the workshop will be on the long-term effects of personality, stress, and social isolation on physical, cognitive, and emotional health. The committee will plan and organize the workshop, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. An individually authored brief summary of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
