Topics
Data science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) are expected to play a critical role in many areas of biomanufacturing. However, this transition will present unique challenges for developing and training the future biomanufacturing workforce. The National Academies will organize a virtual meeting of experts to discuss AI, ML, and data science as they apply to the future of biomanufacturing. A particular focus will be on potential changes to education and training approaches needed to strengthen and diversify the future workforce.

Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a virtual meeting of experts to discuss Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) and data science as they apply to the future of biomanufacturing. A particular focus will be on potential changes to education and training approaches needed to strengthen and diversify the future workforce. The first day of the two day meeting will be an open session, and the second day will be a closed session.
The open session of this meeting of experts will include discussion on the following topics:
• Current state of AI, ML, and data science in biomanufacturing;
• Desired future trajectory of AI, ML, and data science in biomanufacturing;
• The education and training approaches needed to enhance workforce preparedness and improve diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
• Examples from other fields that have aimed to increase awareness of AI, ML, and data science in their workforce.
The closed session of this meeting of experts will focus on approaches for expanding AI, ML, and data science capabilities among all levels of a biomanufacturing workforce.
